Sunday of All Saints (Duminica Tuturor Sfi nților) - Lot 65
Sunday of All Saints (Duminica Tuturor Sfi nților) Romania, 19th century Mixed media on double-backed panel The icon depicts the celebration of all the saints, precursors of Christ, apostles, prophets, pontiffs, martyrs, venerables, righteous of all times, holy women and as well as the anonymous with holy behavior. They are represented in three registers under a brilliant cloud emanating from the Trinity of the New Testament, flanked by the Archangels Michael and Gabriel, and the Virgin and Saint John the Forerunner in intercession. This feast is celebrated by the Eastern Churches on the first Sunday after Pentecost, and is the last celebration of the Easter season. Very good overall structural condition, very oxidized original varnish, some surface damage and delamination, wear. The original color of the blue background is visible thanks to a slight lightening of the varnish around the scriptures. The icon is finely painted with an aesthetic that combines both Eastern and Western characteristics. 21 x 26 cm Expert: LYDIA MANIC Icons - Appraisals - Restorations 14 rue J.J Rousseau 75001 Paris
