PARIS 1784. A silver tulip-shaped tumbler resting on a foot with a frieze of gadroons. Veiled neck. Engraving on pediment: "Prix d'exercice militaire donné par Mr Minel C.dant de la Gde NAT le de DEUIL le 1er 9 bre 1791" with period symbols of the Gendarmerie Nationale. Hallmarks for PARIS 1784. Hallmark attributed to Denis COLOMBIER ("D" and his diff.). Height: 12.4 cm. Weight: 192.4 grams. Deformed base. A rare "document" as this timbale dates from the creation of the Gendarmerie Nationale (formerly the Maréchaussée) in 1791.
