CHATEAU-GONTHIER 1750-53 - Lot 94
CHATEAU-GONTHIER 1750-53
Pair of Louis XV period silver cruets.
The first for water with the engraving "A" (Aqua).
The second for wine with "V" ( for Vinum ).
Bands decorated in repoussé and chased with foliage, palmettes and friezes (also on the feet).
Hallmarks for CHATEAU-GONTHIER 1750-53 (including the common house hallmark with crowned F).
Master goldsmith's hallmarks: Jean-Charles PERROTIN, received in 1750.
Height of cruets: 12.5 cm.
Weight of the pair: 192.6 grams.
The cruets listed in Anjou are always of plain design. The reference work "Les Orfèvres d'Anjou et du Bas-Maine aux Éditions du Patrimoine" specifies on page 468: "that Perrotin seems to have been the only Anjou goldsmith to have decorated his cruets". A pair of cruets from the former Saint-Just collegiate church in Château-Gonthier are similar, but decorated differently (they were exhibited at the 1965 Paris Exhibition).
