Chest of drawers with a central recess in rosewood and rosew - Lot 121
Chest of drawers with a central recess in rosewood and rosewood veneer. Opens to two drawers without crossbar decorated with inlaid nets. They are decorated with a rich marquetry precious wood on a background of architectural landscape. In the foreground a man is courting a lady, by a serenade on the flute. The upper part is decorated with two doves, quivers, arrows, musical instruments and ribbon bows. Rounded mounts with simulated flutes; Pose on four curved feet. Ornaments of gilded and chiseled bronzes. Red veined marble top. Transitional period Louis XV-Louis XVI. 82 x 97 x 56 cm. This commode was probably ordered for a wedding. The bride and groom are certainly represented in the marquetry panel of the latter. The presence of the two doves, symbol of the sacred bonds, reminds us of this event.
